The Russian title translates to October: Ten Days that Shook the World, with the subtitle taken from John Reed’s book on the Russian Revolution.

The film was commissioned by the Soviet Central Government to mark the tenth anniversary of the revolution, and Eisenstein was picked because of his work on The Battleship Potemkin.

Tartan video are re-releasing all of Eisenstein’s films in box sets, with the first available in August 2007, featuring Strike, Potemkin and October.
