The sequels – all made at MGM and featuring Powell and Loy – were After the Thin Man (1936), Another Thin Man (1939), Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), The Thin Man Goes Home (1947), Song of the Thin Man (1947).

A case of mistaken identity, similar to Frankenstein, is cleared up by Halliwell:

‘To get one thing clear: the thin man is not the detective, Nick Charles, even though Mr. Charles’ subsequent adventures made up the ‘Thin Man’ series… the title of the second film, After the Thin Man, played fair; but after that the producers got just as muddled as their audiences.  No, the real thin man, in the film as in the original novel, is the unfortunate murder victim…’
