Notes by Leslie Halliwell from sources other than his Film Guide:

Not many quotes to be found from LH in sources other than the Guide.  However, the Filmgoer’s Companion describes it as –

‘A classic satirical comedy written and directed by René Clair, set in a factory and demonstrating the increasing mechanization of life.’

The story concerns two friends who attempt to escape from prison, but only one of them makes it.  He becomes a successful businessman on the outside but when his friend is released, and comes to visit, he pretends not to know him.

However, this being the world of René Clair, things are just bound to turn out OK in the end.
