This was the last Marx Brothers film to feature Zeppo.

When Groucho was asked to explain the title, he replied, “Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together.  After one taste, you’ll duck soup for the rest of your life.” – It’s actually a slang term meaning something that’s easy to do.

The residents of the city of Fredonia, New York, allegedly protested that the use of the name Freedonia as the fictional country in the film would hurt their city's reputation. The Marx Brothers retorted: “Change the name of your town: it’s hurting our picture.”
